Tesco to launch shopper spending limit with new card system

testing a spending limit for shoppers through a new card system. Cards would be loaded with a prepaid amount, meaning users would not be able to spend any more than that. 'Clubcard Pay' is set to officially launch in September, Manchester Evening News reports.

But supermarket chiefs have been secretly trialling out the product online already.The card hopes to help shoppers with budgeting.Clubcard Pay comes with a contactless Visa debit card so you can add money to it from your existing bank account.It also has a “round up” feature which could be good if you struggle to save money.This rounds up your spend to the nearest pound and puts the difference into a savings account - although you can opt out of this.The savings account pays 0.1% AER.
