Teenage thug punched female Scots shopkeeper who locked him inside family store

A teenage thug brutally attacked a shopkeeper who locked him inside her family’s West Lothian store, a court heard. The 17-year-old, who can’t be named for legal reasons, had tried to get behind the counter of Raza Stores.

After acting suspiciously he tried to leave the store in Livery Street, Bathgate, but plucky shopkeeper Nabila Mughal locked the door and bravely stood in his path.

CCTV of the incident played at Livingston Sheriff Court shows the young thug immediately turning violent and physically slapping Mrs Mughal on the side of her face.Ross Carvel, prosecuting, said that Mrs Murghal phoned her husband to ask him to come to the shop and the accused’s voice could be heard in the background.He said: “The accused then punched the complainer on the face in the mouth area.

Notwithstanding the two strikes she continued to try to block his exit.“He punched her repeatedly on the face and thereafter jabbed her in the face with a bottle of alcohol that he’d lifted from a nearby shelf.“She fell back, pulling down displays behind the till as she fell to the ground.
