A synagogue and community centre in Salford has been told it must pay the local authority £145,000 to extend its building onto a former bowling green.

Kehal Yetev Lev D'Satmar in Northumberland Street has been refused planning permission for a single-storey extension which would accommodate a mikvah - a Jewish ritual bathing facility - and create space for a car park.

The charity, which supports families in the community through a food bank, said it could not afford to cover the cost of a new bowling green elsewhere.
