Steven Gerrard

Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Gutted Steven Gerrard has addressed his Aston Villa exit for the first time after being sacked following defeat to Fulham. The Liverpool icon oversaw a dismal 3-0 defeat at Craven Cottage to the newly promoted on Thursday night to leave them 17th in the Premier League table, with the Villa Park owners deciding to axe the boss less than an hour after the full-time whistle.

The decision comes just 11 months after Gerrard walked away from Rangers following his Scottish Premiership title victory and unbeaten league campaign.

The Liverpool legend has now broken his silence on the sudden Aston Villa departure, having racked up just two wins this season during a lacklustre opening to the campaign.

In a lengthy statement, Gerrard wrote: " I would like to thank everyone connected to Aston Villa Football Club, for the support shown to me during my time there.
