Smoke pours from roof of former Scots school as fire rips through building

Dramatic footage has shown smoke pouring from the roof of a former Scots school after a blaze took hold. Emergency services raced to West George Street in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, at around 7:18pm on Monday February 7.

Four fire crews were drafted in after a blaze took hold at the former Greenhill Primary School. Worried residents reported 'big' flames as cops were forced to seal off surrounding streets.

One clip shows smoke pouring from the roof of the old school as firefighters try desperately to tackle the inferno.Fire crews left the scene at around 2am after battling the blaze for a number of hours.Residents were left saddened by the fire, with the now derelict school holding happy memories for many locals."Roof still ablaze, the wind is spreading it.
