Six Scots councils exposed for breaking living wage vow for care workers

care worker jobs with rates RL Wage despite making promises to pay at least that much. Figures obtained by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism (TBIJ) and the Daily Record show the frontline work is being advertised with salaries short of the UK’s Real Living Wage of £9.50 per hour.

The councils of Fife, Inverclyde, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire and Stirling were all trying to appoint staff in roles below the £9.50 per hour between October 2020 and April 2021 – despite signing up to a pledge to pay at least that amount.

The investigation has found that between the six councils, more than 50 jobs were being advertised below that rate, which included roles as care assistants, support workers and care workers.
