Scots to shiver in 'polar blast' over weekend with snow forecast next week

Get the stories that matter to you sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletter.Shivering Scots were waking up to chilly weather this morning as a "polar blast" slammed into the country.Forecasters predicted the mercury plunging as low as -2C ahead of a cold week.There is also a chance of snow in Scotland next week.Met Office Meteorologist Aidan McGivern said Scotland will see a "lovely day" today with "plenty of sunshine" despite sub-zero temperatures giving the first real taste of winter.McGivern added: "There will also be some showers in northern Scotland, but they are moving away."He also warned of a few freezing fog patches and frost in southern Scotland.Most of the rest of the UK will be cloaked in fog today and temperatures.
