A sex offender has been been spared jail after being outed by a vigilante group targeting Scottish paedophiles. COPD sufferer Desmond McGrath, 57, was snared by members of The Forbidden Scotland group last year.

But he was ordered to attend a treatment programme instead of being sent to jail because, when he thought he was speaking to a youngster, he did not ask them to meet up.Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard McGrath, who lived in Kilmarnock at the time, had to flee his home after being outed by the group in a 'sting' streamed live on Facebook.

The details emerged when McGrath, who had to move as a result of the publicity and now lives in Ayr, appeared in the dock for sentencing.
