Ukrainian Scots have spoken of their horror as their spiritual homeland and relatives came under Russian attack. Close-knit members of the Scottish Ukrainian community met in Edinburgh to show solidarity against Russian tyranny, with many in tears over fears for the lives of their loved ones.

Linda Allison, chair of the Edinburgh branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain, said she was devastated at the news of the assault on the homeland of her father, who came to Scotland after World War 2.

Linda said: “I am devastated, heartbroken, at what is happening in such a beautiful country.“I have been in touch with family members this morning and they are in such fear.

They don’t know if there will be missiles on their home and they believe that channels of communication like Whatsapp and Messenger will be removed at any moment.“I feel very isolated from people but my heart is very much in the Ukraine.“There may have been surprise among people in the UK that this has happened but I don’t think the people of the Ukraine are at all surprised.
