Comedian cooks 'frighteningly good' food at Ayrshire restaurant

A Scots comedian has swapped his microphone for a pair of chef whites.Glasgow-based funnyman Gary Faulds has launched a brand new cooking show in which he will visit restaurants and pubs around Scotland.And the first stop for 'Cooking With Gary Faulds' was the Kings Arms in Fenwick.He helped the Ayrshire eaterie's head chef Stefan McKnight whip up a batch of delicious pork ribs as he got a first hand look at what it's like to run a busy kitchen behind the scenes.Gary opened the video by saying: "We are here at the Kings Arms in Fenwick to make an absolutely banging munch, it involves ribs and pork fat...

I am basically 99 per cent pork fat!"What we want to do in this programme is show you the potential that independent small businesses can offer to people."He then headed into the kitchen with Stefan with an initial chat about the food, and Gary was praising owners Gareth Kelly and Mikey Lennon along with Stefan for the "passion" they put into their food.They started making BBQ pork belly ribs, and Stefan reckons it's something that could be made from home.They added a host of spices to a bowl before using mustard as a glue to coat the spice mix on to the pork ribs, and they then added homemade stock to the tray before putting the ribs into the oven for between two and three hours.Stefan then added his signature BBQ sauce before prepping veg to go alongside the dish and then grilled the ribs to caramelise and crisp them up.Gary then sat down with owners Mikey Lennon and Gareth Kelly to discuss the meal and their adventure that led to owning the pub.Gary said: "I know your story, but some people don't know so what made you do this?"Gareth, who used to own Bakers nightclub in Kilmarnock, replied: "This has been a pub I was
