The sacrifice of those who died who died as prisoners of war in the Far East during the Second World War was remembered at a special ceremony in Motherwell on Monday.War veterans and members of the public gathered at the Civic Centre to commemorate the end of the conflict, when Japanese forces surrendered on August 15, 1945.The moment effectively ended World War II, after the Far East campaign fought by British, Allied and Commonwealth forces since December 1941 – which became known as “the Forgotten War” and saw many thousands of men being captured and enduring years of captivity in prisoner of war camps.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
