Ryan Giggs will face a new trial next year after it emerged today that prosecutors would pursue the case after jurors in his original trial failed to reach any verdicts last week.
The jurors in the former Manchester United star's first trial was discharged after they failed to reach verdicts. The Manchester Crown Court trial collapsed after the jury foreman said the seven women and four men were deadlocked, and that more time would not be useful in their deliberations.
The jury had been out considering their deliberations for 22 hours and 59 minutes. Today (Wednesday), at another hearing at Manchester Crown Court, the prosecutors announced they had decided they would pursue the case to a second trial next year. He was also accused of behaving in a controlling and coercive behaviour towards Kate Greville between August 2017 and November 2020.
