Scotland outcast Ryan Gauld has refused to rule out playing for Canada in the future. The former Dundee United and Sporting Lisbon star was named the Player of the Year for Vancouver Whitecaps after an outstanding season in the MLS.
But he's continually been overlooked for Scotland with Steve Clarke opting to look elsewhere for both the World Cup and the Nations League campaign.
He admitted last month: "If it happens then great. But I won’t be upset if the next squad comes out and my name’s not there.
I haven’t had any contact from Scotland or the SFA since Gordon Strachan was in charge."Gauld would be eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship once he completes his contract at Vancouver next year and could even play a part at the 2026 World Cup which will be co-hosted by Canada, with games in his new home city. And the 26-year-old, in an interview with local podcast 'Away from the numbers' admitted the suggestion of playing for Canada gave him food for thought. He said: "You can never say never, I've not actually thought about it, but who knows what is going to happen in the future."I'm not looking at forcing my way into the Scotland set-up.
