Rio Ferdinand has said Manchester United do not have a 'specified defensive midfielder or who has the capability to do it anymore'.
Speaking on Vibe With FIVE, Rio said United's midfield balance had been 'all over the place' against Villarreal and the problems 'go back to the summer' when United brought in Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo – but no defensive midfielder.
The United legend said the club had to bring Ronaldo back, but that the move 'just took out the possibility of addressing the defensive midfield area'.
