'Reconsider whether your work is critical' - Parents told school should be last resort amid coronavirus pandemic

Parents are being urged to exhaust all options for childcare before asking for a place at school amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The government today issued a list of key workers whose children are entitled to ask for a place at school during the crisis.

While the list is necessarily long - to cover those on the front line and in jobs that are keeping the country moving - headteachers say they are getting requests which they consider to be 'non-essential'.

In an urgent letter to parents today, St Andrew's CE Primary School in Boothstown, says it has 'received a lot more requests than anticipated' and asked all parents to reflect on their requests and reconsider whether their work is critical to the Covid-19 response.
