As people queued outside banks and stopped off to buy food from stalls, it could have been a normal Monday on Market Street.
Except it is not a normal Monday, or at least it shouldn't feel like one. While the government refused to rule out tougher action to tackle the spread of coronavirus, some people in Manchester continued to ignore advice to stay indoors.
Pictures show dozens of people queueing closely together for Santander, after the bank implemented a one in, one out rule. Others attempted to keep their distance as they waited in line at a fast food stall along Market Street.
As other parts of Manchester city centre looked eerily quiet, Piccadilly Gardens was busy with people basking in the lunchtime sun.
