Perth Strathtay Harriers sprinter Lewis Scott is on the fast track to success

Perth Strathtay Harrier Lewis Scott has a need for speed.The young sprinter is becoming a familiar face on the national circuit and is improving with every passing week.Just 16, his latest strong performance arrived at the weekend's National Indoor Open at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.Lewis recorded personal bests in both the 60m (7.53 seconds) and the 200m (23.92 seconds) to kick off the new year on the front foot.“I was pleasantly surprised with my performance,” admitted Lewis, a Perth Grammar School student.“And especially as I had not been able to train for the two weeks beforehand due to self-isolating.“To come back with two personal bests is much more than I thought I was going to achieve.”Lewis has been a member of the Harriers for a number of years now and has enjoyed the transition to competitive racing.He recalled: “I was encouraged to join the Harriers by my primary seven school teacher as athletics was something he saw I had more potential in over other sports.“At the beginning I was reluctant to compete, but as I progressed and enjoyed the sport more I took part in a few competitions and then realised how much I enjoy them.

I have gone to as many as I can each season since then.“I have really enjoyed the competitive side of the sport. I love that I am racing against people from a wider range of backgrounds, age groups and areas, meaning each race day is different.”Training will continue ahead of another couple of visits to the Emirates Arena.

It’s a busy time on and off the track.Lewis said: “I have the under-17 championships on January 22 and the under-20 championships on February 19.
