Ofgem has issued a warning to energy customers after it became aware of a phone scam. Suppliers are being urged by Ofgem to warn consumers of the scams and have written to them to ensure that customers remain updated with the latest security information.

It comes after energy payers all across the country wait for the first instalment of the government's energy discount which will come into effect from October 1.

The Energy Bills Support Scheme will provide customers with a total discount of £400 split up between six months (October to March 2023).

The discount will be applied to energy accounts automatically via different energy suppliers, such as British Gas, which means customers don't need to apply for the discount.
