new report on Wednesday, the New York Times said the Biden administration disclosed that the Trump Justice Department seized the phone records of four reporters — Matt Apuzzo, Adam Goldman, Eric Lichtblau and Michael S.
Schmidt — for four months in 2017. According to the Times, based on the timing of the records and the reporters involved, it believes the investigation centered on an April 2017 story about James Comey’s handling of certain investigations during the 2016 presidential election. “Seizing the phone records of journalists profoundly undermines press freedom,” Dean Baquet, the executive editor of the New York Times, said in a statement.
