NICK Knowles tried to buy Gwrych Castle for £5 in the hope of performing his own “DIY SOS” on the crumbling country house. The TV star wanted to transform the 200-year-old Welsh landmark, which was derelict before ITV transformed it into the set of I’m A Celebrity.
Nick, 58, put forward the peppercorn purchase price with the aim of pumping money into rescuing and renovating the building near Abergele, Conwy.
But the DIY SOS presenter, who also starred on I’m A Celebrity in 2018, had to make a dignified withdrawal when he discovered it would need a cash injection of at least £1.5million.
