New winter gritter for Lanarkshire named 'Caramelt Wafer' by Tunnock's staff

A gritter newly named in honour of a Lanarkshire confectionery firm is joining the fleet of imaginatively-named winter vehicles patrolling the area’s trunk roads.Staff at Tunnock’s in Uddingston were invited to cook up a name for one of Amey’s gritters; and chose Caramelt Wafer, inspired by the family firm’s famous biscuit.

The distinctive orange vehicle visited the Tunnock's factory to show off its new name and accompanying teacake graphic alongside one of its vintage vans – and Lanarkshire residents also now have the chance to name another gritter in the fleet.

Caramelt Wafer will be patrolling routes including the M74, M8 and A8, M80 and Lanarkshire’s A725 and A726 throughout the winter months.It joins a fleet including Grits You Through, named last year for the Irn-Bru slogan; plus dozens more favourites such as Sled Zeppelin, Licence to Chill, Grit Tok and Sweet Child O’Brine.
