A campaign for a 'desperately needed' link between the Lancashire town of Rawtenstall and Manchester is in its 'strongest position ever'.
This is according to Rossendale council leader Alyson Barnes who says the award of £50,000 from Chancellor Rishi Sunak will go towards work to develop a new mainstream link.
Responding to a question from Conservative Coun Jenny Rigby, the Labour leader spoke of negotiations with the East Lancashire Railway (ELR) following Mr Sunak's award from the Restoring Your Railways 'Ideas Fund' in his October budget.
