New food and drink hall part of proposed £262m transformation of historic train yard

A total of 1,700 homes are earmarked for the former Horwich Locomotive Works site, near Bolton. Developer Bluemantle has today unveiled its masterplan for the housing estate, which has been named Rivington Chase.

They include a retail, food and drink hall - inspired by Manchester's popular Mackie Mayor - as well as a large multi-storey car park.

As part of the proposed plans, two historic buildings will also be restored to their former glory. At its peak, Horwich Locomotive Works - more commonly known as the Loco Works - employed
