James Allan became Scotland’s Brian Wilson as he took seven years to record Glasvegas ’s fourth album Godspeed, which is out now.
Like the Beach Boys legend, James agonised over different sounds, sometimes taking days and weeks to get one right and walking about with a bag of microphones just in case.
But while it took Wilson 10 months to decide to quit making Smile, the Scot didn’t even consider giving up. James, 41, from Dalmarnock, Glasgow, who wrote, recorded, engineered and produced Godspeed himself said: “I don’t know if it’s something I’m proud of or more worried about but at least he had the sense to walk away.
