MSPs have been handed an early Christmas present as Scottish Parliament bosses today offered them a 3.4 per cent wage rise next year.

Politicians at Holyrood saw their wages frozen last year despite parliamentary chiefs earmarking an eye-popping 5.1 per cent rise for them.

MSPs currently receive a basic salary of £64,470 - but that will rise to £66,662 from April next year following a review. Elected members can also claim expenses for staffing costs and travel - and can top up their wages significantly if they are promoted to a Scottish Government position.
