Chris Fountain, who played Tommy Duckworth in Coronation Street, has revealed that he suffered a mini stroke last month. The actor awoke in his home unable to speak, and called 111 on his mother's advice.

The 35-year-old spent five days in hospital after suffering a Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) - better known as a mini stroke.

While age is a common risk factor in suffering a mini stroke, it can impact people of all ages. It is similar to a stroke although its symptoms do not typically last as long.

They are still, however, very dangerous and can increase your future risks of another mini stroke or a full stroke. They can also have long-lasting effects on your speech, which has been the case for Chris, who was left “speaking like a toddler”.
