Massive search called off in hunt for missing rock climber feared to have fallen into the North Sea

North Sea has been called off. Emergency services were first called to the scene at Bullers of Buchan, near Peterhead, shortly after 7pm on Friday.

HM Coastguard teams were joined by RNLI crews and Police Scotland after receiving reports that a man had fallen into the water while scaling a north-east rock face.

Rescue teams were stood down shortly before midnight with searches beginning again at 6.30am on Saturday.A helicopter and special police drone were used to scour the surrounding area between Peterhead and Cruden Bay in the hunt for the missing man.But the decision was made to stand down the rescue mission at 4pm today.Peterhead RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Jurgen Wahle said: “We were immediately launched last night (Friday) to.
