Dean Henderson says he is expected to return from his long-term injury in time for pre-season. The Manchester United goalkeeper has not played since January 14 after tearing his thigh following loan club Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 win over Leicester.

The 26-year-old is out for the season after successfully undergoing surgery for the problem a fortnight ago. The shot-stopper is due to return to his parent club upon the end of his loan spell with his future uncertain.

Henderson unloaded on United for their “criminal” treatment of him over perceived broken promises after securing his loan to the Midlands club. It’s not clear whether Erik ten Hag wishes to bring Henderson back into the fold next season. Henderson has now given an update on when he expects to be back on the field following his surgery.
