Referee Jonathan Moss allowed play to continue after Phil Foden went down under the challenge of Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy during Wednesday evening's game at the Etihad Stadium.
England international Foden was quickly back on his feet but Southampton survived the attack.Replays of the incident appeared to show that McCarthy got more of the man than the ball as he made a desperate lunge - but VAR (video assistant referee) Andy Madley did not overturn the original decision.
