Disney‘s Wizards Of Waverly Place is set to return for a sequel series, with Selena Gomez reprising her role as Alex Russo.The Disney Channel fantasy sitcom, which helped launch Gomez’s career, originally ran from 2007 to 2012.As reported by Deadline, Disney has now ordered a pilot for a reboot of the series, which will also see David Henrie return as Gomez’s onscreen sibling Justin.The pair are joined by new cast members Janice LeAnn Brown (Disney’s Just Roll with It), Alkaio Thiele (Call Me Kat) and Mimi Gianopulos (American Princess).The original Wizards Of Waverly Place followed a group of teenage wizards living on the titular street in New York’s Greenwich Village.The new series will reportedly pick up its story after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has neglected his wizard powers in favour of pursuing a normal, human life with his wife and two sons.However, he’s soon drawn back into the world of magic when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door, and Justin realises he must embrace his past to secure the future of the Wizard World.The revival pilot comes from writers and executive producers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who are behind another Disney Channel comedy spin-off, Raven’s Home.“Ohhhh we are sooo back to our childhoods,” wrote one excited fan on X/Twitter in response to the news. Marvel’s new show is its most violent yet, say critics
Echo, the newest series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has been labelled by many critics as its most violent show to date.The five-episode run, which is streaming now on Disney+, is a spinoff from the series Hawkeye from 2021, and follows the character of Maya Lopez, aka Echo, played by Alaqua Cox.In the show, Lopez returns to her hometown in Oklahoma, where she is forced to reckon with her past and reconnect with her Native American roots, in an effort to embrace her family and community.This series was first speculated upon back in 2021, with Echo, who is a deaf amputee with the ability to perfectly mimic the movements of others, heavily rumoured to be the subject of the show, even before Hawkeye had been first aired.Echo is the first show to be released under the ‘Marvel Spotlight’ banner, which they have introduced for select products that focus on “grounded, character-driven stories” and less on impacting the broader MCU narrative.Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, said: “Just like comic fans didn’t need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic, our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening in Maya’s story.”Many reviews have focused on the surprising levels of violence in the show’s action sequences.In a three-star review, The Guardian wrote: “The show is significantly gnarlier than its Disney+ predecessors, with far bloodier violence than has graced the streamer before.”“While Echo doesn’t quite cure the pandemic of Marvel fatigue currently raging across the globe, it shows there may be some life in the old gal.”Empire Magazine, who also give the show three stars, also points to the excitement in some of the

The Mandalorian has been named as the most streamed original television series in 2023.The third season of the Star Wars spinoff series wound up on Disney+ in April, with a finale that left some fans divided over its surprisingly optimistic conclusion.In a new list compiled by the data analysts Whip Media (via Yahoo News), which established the dominance of shows based on the share of viewers in the US from January to November, there are three more Disney+ shows in the top ten.Marvel series Loki comes in at Number Two, while Secret Invasion and Ahsoka land the seventh and ninth spots respectively.Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso takes the third spot, while the highest Netflix placing is You in fourth place, followed by Black Mirror at Number Six.Netflix do, however, take the largest share of the Top 30 in total, with a total of 11 contributions.In December, Netflix announced that they would be publishing a report twice a year to show what subscribers were watching over a six month period.The first report, which covered the months from January to June 2023, revealed that according to their data, The Night Agent was the most viewed product, racking up over 812 million hours globally.Created by Shawn Ryan, The Night Agent follows FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) who is thrown into a desperate hunt for a traitor at the highest levels of the US government.
