Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Liberal Democrat Helen Morgan has won the North Shropshire by-election with a majority of 5,925 over the Conservatives, who took the seat with almost 63% of the vote in the general election two years ago.

In her victory speech, newly-elected MP Mrs Morgan said party campaigners’ efforts had “delivered a gift of hope to our country, just in time for Christmas”.

After thanking her family and party activists for their support, she added: “Tonight, the people of North Shropshire have spoken on behalf of the British people. “They have said loudly and clearly: ‘Boris Johnson, the party is over’. “Your Government, run on lies and bluster, will be held accountable.
