Lanarkshire MSP takes on new government role

Neil Gray has told of his “delight and surprise” about taking up his first government role as Scotland’s minister for culture, Europe and international affairs – and described his short time in office so far as an “absolute whirlwind”.

The Airdrie and Shotts MSP was promoted to the government role to succeed party colleague Jenny Gilruth, after she in turn took up the role of transport secretary when predecessor Graeme Dey stood down for health reasons.

He is getting to know his new portfolio, and has this week announced £16 million in funding for the cultural sector through the Omicron business support fund, to “help cultural organisations, events, museums and freelancers recover from the economic impact of coronavirus restrictions”.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
