Lanarkshire jobs boost as vehicle salvage firm given green light at former Motorola site

An online vehicle remarketing and recycling firm has secured planning permission for a 31-acre site in East Kilbride with the promise of "many" local jobs with it.Copart UK's new operation centre will take over the former Motorola and Jeyes factory sites, doubling their operational capabilities in Scotland.Originally announced last year, work is now due to start on the new centre supporting Copart’s continued growth alongside their existing centre in Whitburn and recycling centre in Inverkeithing.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

The Kelvin factory had operated since 1970.And semi-conductor maker Freescale, who had a research and development base in Kelvin Industrial Estate – a facility established by Motorola in 1969 – ceased manufacturing in 2009 which led to the loss of around 850 jobs.
