Katherine Ryan has opened up on suffering two miscarriages during lockdown, calling the experience "relentless." The 38 year old gave birth to her second child, son Fred, last June but suffered two miscarriages back to back before welcoming him with husband Bobby Kootstra.

Opening up on the ordeal in an exclusive interview with OK!, the comedian said: "By the time Fred joined our family I felt very lucky because we had lost two pregnancies before him. "But I also have been pregnant for 18 months so I joke that I had the gestation of an elephant.

It just felt relentless to me." "I think it was actually kind of humbling and very centring to have to wait for Fred and, in a way, I’m glad that he was born at the end of lockdown, not the beginning. "A lot of my friends welcomed babies at the beginning and those babies didn’t know anyone but their parents for about a year and I feel like that would have been so much more difficult being isolated with the baby." Discussing how Fred accompanies her on tour, she added: "I’m the opposite.

Fred isn’t isolated – he’s going to all the towns and cities and gets to see lots of train conductors and shopkeepers and people in the streets.
