A Metrolink tram driver who threw a passenger out of a tram causing him to suffer a broken ankle has been jailed. Jonathan Hannah, 57, lied by saying Michael Gilliver - who had been out drinking with friends and fallen asleep - had threatened him with a knife.

Hannah, from Gorton, 'bundled' Mr Gilliver out of the tram, which was at sidings near Piccadilly station, causing him to fall from a height of three feet to the ground.

He landed awkwardly and suffered a broken ankle. As Mr Gilliver lay screaming in pain, Hannah, who had worked for Metrolink for more than 10 years before being sacked last year, left in the tram.
