ITV Coronation Street bosses ‘sorry’ as soap star ‘files for bankruptcy’
ok.co.ukCoronation Street bosses have thrown their support behind longest-serving Weatherfield legend Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow on the ITV soap.
Bill, now 91, was reportedly forced to file "for bankruptcy" due to his financial situation. The reports come as a result of a petition he has now had launched against him by HMRC.
According to The Mirror, His Majesty's Revenue and Customs office wouldn't reference Bill directly as they "don't comment" on individual cases.
Instead, a spokesperson said they do "everything" they can to help those suffering financially and who have tax debts. "We take a supportive approach to dealing with customers who have tax debts, and do everything we can to help those who engage with us to get out of debt, such as offering instalment plans," the statement read. "We only petition for bankruptcy as a last resort," the spokesperson then added.
