Two Irish sisters were delighted to be able to show off their high kicks on the famous Moulin Rouge stage, as it finally reopened in Paris last night.
Covid restrictions have seen the French cabaret close its doors for 18 months – the longest it has been closed since 1915. Dubliner Isabelle van den Bergh Cooke, 24, said the relaunch of the show was a ‘symbol of hope’ following the pandemic.
She said: ‘It was really upsetting to see the red mill’s lights off. The show is happening now so it really is like a symbol of hope.’ She told RTÉ how she found out her audition to dance with the company had been successful as she was studying for the dreaded Leaving Certificate more than five years ago.
