Don't miss a thing by getting the latest from the Manchester Evening News sent direct to your inbox Ambulance staff are being equipped with body-worn cameras for the first time in a bid to combat the violence they face every day.
North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) will be rolling out the cameras from 31 March as part of a national pilot scheme. It will start in areas with the highest number of incidents of abuse against staff, including central Manchester.
It follows a 4pc rise in incidents of physical assault against staff in the North West last year, despite lockdown measures in place.
Almost 400 incidents were reported, more than one every day. A further 1,061 incidents of verbal abuse or threatening behaviour were also logged.
