Phil Foden wants to play behind Erling Haaland more often after feeling 'alive' in that role against Newcastle recently. Foden has long been earmarked for a role at the top of midfield, and impressed in a central position towards the end of last season - particularly in the Champions League final.
With Ilkay Gundogan leaving Manchester City this summer and Kevin De Bruyne injured until the new year, a space has opened up for Foden to play behind Haaland and provide the creative spark.
Against Newcastle, Foden looked bright as a number ten next to Julian Alvarez in a similar position, but he was on the bench a week later vs Sheffield United due to illness.
But Foden has sent a message to manager Pep Guardiola that he feels that 'Newcastle' position is his favourite one, and that he is ready to handle the responsibility that comes with it. "I think the one I played in against Newcastle, that's my favourite one, that's where I feel comfortable" he told Sky Sports. "I felt alive in that game, I felt myself more and I could get on the ball and do things. "That's always been me as a player and hopefully I can keep playing there and show people what I can do.
