Huge 400 METER historic mine shaft opens up next to Ashton footpath

A patch of ground next to a footpath in a quiet Tameside cul-de-sac has collapsed into a historic mine shaft which drops more than 400 METERS into the Earth.

Teams from the Coal Authority were called to Camberwell Drive in Ashton-under-Lyne yesterday afternoon, December 13, after a section of the group collapsed.

They rushed to the site, along with Tameside Council, to make sure the area was safe for residents, and have now started the huge task of trying to repair the gigantic hole permanently.
