Queen Elizabeth announced the heartbreaking news that her ‘beloved husband’ Prince Philip has passed away, aged 99. The pair first met in 1934, when Elizabeth was just eight-years-old, at a wedding of Philip’s cousin.

They met again at the Royal Naval College in 1939 where he was a cadet. At the time, Lizzie was 13 and started writing to a then 18-year-old Philip.
