High blood pressure: Three vegetable juices that could reduce hypertension - study

The report, published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, revealed drinks made from root vegetables - beetroot, carrot and yam bean - were effective in reducing blood pressure, while "commercial" vegetable drinks containing beetroot also worked.

It says: "The studies showed that fruit and vegetable juices affect cardiovascular risk factors, such as lowering blood pressure and improving blood lipid profiles. "The main mechanisms of action included antioxidant effects, improvement of the aspects of the cardiovascular system, inhibition of platelet aggregation, anti-inflammatory effects, and prevention of hyperhomocysteinemia.
