Hearts and Partick Thistle they face being banished from football. The M8 Alliance is trying to convince the Court of Session hearing that Dundee United, Raith and Cove should not have been promoted and that their own relegation must be overturned.

Meanwhile, the three promoted clubs are opposing their joint petition on the grounds it would deny them a lawful promotion and state the dispute should be sent back to the SFA for them to adjudicate.Gerry Moynihan QC, acting on behalf of the SPFL, told judge Lord Clark that Hampden chiefs believe this is not a matter for the courts but the rulers of the game.

The SPFL’s advocate stated SFA rules meant Hearts and Thistle could be fined £1million, be suspended or even kicked out of the organisation.
