GMP condemn Curry Mile gatherings which saw hundreds shut down road and hurl missiles at police

It's thought they were held to mark Pakistan and Afghanistan independence days.Now GMP have said the gatherings put people at risk, and diverted resources away from other potentially serious incidents.GMP said missiles were thrown at officers, fireworks were let off from car roofs and there was reports of dangerous driving.The force is investigating whether any criminal offences were committed, and have asked the public for help.

GMP said that about 200 people and 50 vehicles attended the first event, at about 9.30pm on Friday, August 14. Days later, on Wednesday, about 30 to 40 people and 20 vehicles were on Wilmslow Road at about 9pm.Officers were responding to.
