direct to your inboxThe furlough scheme will now close at the end of April.Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced an extension to the scheme after initially making a last-minute decision to extend it ahead of the second national lockdown.The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme was extended beyond its October 31 2020 cut off date in November with a new date set for March 2021.Now, on the day the new tier allocations were made in England, Mr Sunak has announced the scheme will be extended for an extra month until the end of April.This means the government will continue paying 80% towards wages of unworked hours in a bid to support businesses and employees in the New Year.Employers will only be required to pay wages, National Insurance.
