Get the stories that matter to you sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletter.More than 5,000 people in Johnstone got themselves checked out for Covid-19 at the town's asymptomatic testing centre, it has been revealed.Renfrewshire Council piloted the country's first lateral flow test in a fixed location at Johnstone Town Hall between December 2 and 9 in a bid to find out more about residents and workers who were carrying coronavirus unknowingly.The quick and simple swab test - which returns results in about 45 minutes - was open to anyone who worked, lived or went to school in Johnstone and around 40 per cent of the target population stepped forward to take part.The findings will be considered at a national level to inform.
