Firefighters rush to Stockport store as signs ripped off during Storm Eustice

Fire crews were scrambled to a Go Outdoors store in Stockport after two signs came off during Storm Eunice. Two fire engines attended the scene on Stockport Road in Cheadle Heath just before 3.45pm this afternoon (January 18).

They were joined by the Technical Response Unit from Ashton-under-Lyne, and spent two hours at the scene removing loose parts of the sign and making sure the area was safe. READ MORE: 90mph winds to hit UK with rare 'Red' danger to life weather warnings in place A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just before 3.45pm this afternoon (February 18), two fire engines from Stockport and Wythenshawe fire stations, joined by the Technical Response Unit from Ashton-under-Lyne, were called to Stockport Road, Cheadle Health. “The incident involved two signs at a commercial premises that had become detached from their fixings. "Crews removed loose parts of the signs and made sure the area was safe before departing after around two hours at the scene.” Storm Eunice has battered Greater Manchester, uprooting trees and causing damage to cars and disruption to roads and railways.

An amber weather warning for strong winds remains in place for Greater Manchester until 9pm. The Met Office warning states there is a 'good chance' that 'flying debris could result in a danger to life', and that damage to homes and buildings is likely.
