Scots offshore crews had to be evacuated by coastguard helicopters after an onboard blaze. The fire broke out on an installation in the north sea, 95 miles north-west of Sumburgh, Shetland, on Saturday.
Emergency services scrambled to the scene at around 3pm according to Aberdeen Live. Two coastguard helicopters airlifted crew members to safety which took around four hours while onboard firefighters tackled the blaze.
A coastguard fixed-wing aircraft was also sent to provide safety cover for the helicopters. The helicopters and aircraft returned to base at 6.45pm that evening. It is still unclear if anyone has been injured during the rescue attempts or the extent of damage that has occurred as a result of the reported fire.
