Presenter Fern Britton has hit out at ITV shows This Morning and Loose Women for their “embarrassing” begging for votes for the National Television Awards.

Fern, 64, was a regular face on This Morning between 1999 and 2009 and used to host with current presenter Philip Schofield.

Chatting to Kate Thornton on her White Wine Question Time podcast, Fern said: “The very important thing, as you know as well, to be a real presenter, in terms of that kind of show — Loose Women, This Morning, those kinds of shows — you are not the star.” The TV favourite went on: “The person, the story, is the star.

And I always wanted every guest to be comfortable, to know that their story’s been told… they’ve been able to tell their story properly, fully, been listened to and heard.” Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter She then went on to reveal how “embarrassing” she finds the show’s asking for votes.
