Replays in all rounds were scrapped last season due to the condensed fixture schedule caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The decision could play a major beating on both Manchester City and Manchester United as they enter the competition in the third round.

Both sides could potentially play an extra two matches if their third and fourth round ties both end in draws. The FA scrapped replays from the fifth round onwards prior to the pandemic and that will carry on going forward.
